Sticky Situation

I literally found myself in a sticky situation and had no idea how to get, well, unstuck so where did I go to for help? Pinterest, of course.

Allow me to explain...

There's this galvanize box my hubby brought back from work a couple of years ago that someone was going to throw out. It's a really nice looking box but the only problem was that it had some product stickers/labels that covered the entire area of both front and back which just needed to go. Well as you can imagine when I ripped the labels off I was left with this...
Here's a closer look.
A BIG sticky mess. Usually I solve this problem with hot water and some soaking time, which by the way works very well for glass. But this is galvanize metal and I didn't think soaking it in water would be such a good idea. So I did a little Pinterest research on the subject and one possible solution that came up was this...
Peanut butter? Yes, peanut butter. Can you believe it? So I figured, I have some in the refrigerator...Yes, we keep our peanut butter in the fridge. Believe me you wouldn't be the first to tell me that was weird. Hee, Hee, Hee....Anyhoo, I thought I would give it a try.
I spread a fair amount all over the front and back and let it sit over night. The next day I took an old towel and wiped, removing all the residue a little bit at a time. However, it did take a bit longer and a bit more elbow grease than I would have liked. Only being able to handle one side the first day I decided to leave the other side for the next day. And I am so glad I did because this time the cleaning went a lot easier and faster. I guess the extra day with the peanut butter really helped :-)
One thing I forgot to mention was that I had taken the labels off a couple of years back when I first got the box and that it sat in my garage until I could find the time and an easy way to remove the residue. BIG mistake. The residue only seamed to have baked on? ( It's the only way I can describe it.) I guess it dried up over time and was probably what made it a little harder to remove. But a bit more time with the peanut butter facial seemed to do the trick.  I guess the amount of time you'll need the peanut butter to sit depends on the toughness of the residue....But it worked and I absolutely love the results. I will have to share in another post what I did with my brand new box. Stay tune :-)

Thank you for stopping by. Hope you enjoyed your visit with me.

Sweet find on a very hot day.

It's official...I AM NOT A SUMMER PERSON. Heat just renders me useless. No inspiration, no creativity, no desire for ANYTHING...Well, maybe just to sit in front of the fan. Hee, hee, hee.

So today as I sit in front of my fan trying to think of something, anything to do so that I don't go crazy I decide to look through my iPad and iPhone pics and organize them...And look what I came across...
Back in November my brother in-law-brother, Julio married his very beautiful fiancĂ©e, Traci. I was so excited because they asked me if I would agree to create their cake topper. Of course immediately I said yes. Back then I was sworn to secrecy, so I couldn't show it to anyone until after the wedding. And if I recall correctly I promised you all that as soon as I could I would share....Well, here we are 8 months later...Better late than never? :-) I think it turned out so cute.
This is it on the cake. Needless to say I was totally ecstatic for being bestowed such a sweet honor.

And this is the happy couple on their special day.

Thank you all for stopping by.
Stay cool everyone and stay creative.

New Vignette and Old Transformation

As I was working on a new vignette for one of my living room's side tables I realize I had never posted about one of my most favorite thrift store finds transformations...
This is the vignette I was working on.
Here's a closer look...I love adding anything bird related to my vignettes. Love the sweet little nest.
And this is the after of my thrift store transformation...It's a vintage, broken, balance scale transformed into a lamp. When I found this piece it was missing the two balance plates (not sure that's what they're called) the arms and top part that held them in place.
At first I wasn't going to pick it up, even though it was only a couple of dollars but, Hubby thought it was too pretty to pass up. Plus, he had faith that I would eventually come up with a good use for it so he convinced me to get it. I figured it was probably worth taking for a couple of bucks even if it was only for the beautiful prisms...Well, after some brain storming a light bulb went off...Hee, hee, hee, pun intended...And after a bit of cleaning some paint and some wiring I had a brand new lamp...And now it's my most favorite lamp I own. Needless to say,  I was very happy Hubby convinced me to pick it up.
Since I transformed this thrift store find before my blogging days I have no before pictures to share but below is a picture I found on Google of what it would have looked like at one point in time.

As always, I'm thrilled you stopped by for a visit.
Wishing you all a beautifully creative day.
