A Tiny Break From Decorating

Happy Monday Everyone!

In between all my Christmas decorating...which by the way I have not even come close to finishing, I decided I would take a tiny break and do a bit of "gardening."

I have always wanted to grow some of these bulbed flowers so yesterday while at Trader Joe's I picked up this kit that came with a Paperwhite flower bulb, compressed potting mix and a container.

I have decided to use my own container however.

Grow, little flower, grow.

Well, back to my decorating. Hope to be able to show you some pictures soon...In the meantime you can get a little sneak peek at our Christmas tree in the background of the last two pictures...It's just a tiny peek :-)

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and may this new week be filled with the joy, happiness and beauty of this season.

Oh and by the way, I decided to change the frame color on my $1.50, "As Is" Snowman find after all. What do you think?

Here's a little reminder of what it looked like before.

Wishing everyone a jolly, joyous and merry weekend...I'm sooo in the spirit now! :-)

Gifts For Moi...

And it's not even Christmas yet!

Yesterday I received a bag full of beautiful gifts from my most favoritest cousin ever, Irma from Cosas Bellas. I would love to share with you what she gave me.

Okay, where should I begin? Well first let me begin by telling you that Irma and I are twins...from different parents and two years apart :-) We are so similar in our tastes and likes it's not even funny, actually it's even scary some times...And as if that weren't enough we have been told we look a lot alike, we have even been confused for each other once or twice. Anyway, I consider her a twin soul, a true kindred spirit. She knows me oh too well so she knows exactly what I'll love. So that being said...

She knows how much I love things in three's and birds so she gave me this sweet figurine by Lladro. Love it.

She also knows how much I love snow people....And they're three!

Look at those cute little faces.

Monogram plates and dishtowel...Love, love, love them. I tell you she knows me well.

Coffee table book by Victoria Magazine...Can't wait to sit down with a cup of coffee and drool over all the beautiful pictures.

And last but not least another beautiful snow person...One can never have too many.

Thank you Irma...I love all my gifts. And thank you for always being so loving, caring, and thoughtful with me and for always being there for me. Love you tons.

Thank you all for stopping by today.

Hope everyone one has a wonderful week.

"As Is" Dress Form...Before and After

Hi Everyone!

I just finished my petite dress form...Do you wanna see?

Remember what it looked like before?

As I was pulling her apart guess what I found underneath this interesting choice of fabrics?

Can you believe it? Needless to say I decided to leave this is...

However, the stand and neck piece needed a little something more, so...

I decided to use this wooden candlestick for the stand...Didn't like the original color (top) so I stained it a little darker...By the way, got the candlestick and it's pair at a thrift store for 50 cents each.

And to embellish the neck piece I created this cute little finial out of a vintage knob and some other spare parts I had...

Which later I painted and gave a rubbed bronze finish look to.

Well enough with the chit chat Ana....Show your sweet blogging friends the After...

Here she is...

Close up of the finished finial and...

stamped sash, for a little pizazz.

So what do you think. Was it worth the whole $5.00 I paid for it? I mean $5.50...including the candlestick. I think so. Love it!

Thank you for stopping by today.

Have a wonderful day.

I Knew This Day Would Come...

But I never thought it'd be here so soon.

As of yesterday my baby girl is taking driver's education.

I guess for someone who started crawling at 4 months and walking at 8 months the only thing that could keep her from driving sooner was the age limit in California. I still can't believe she's already 15 1/2. They grow up sooo fast...Are hubby and I ready for this?...NO! But we know she is... Although in our eyes she will always be our sweet little baby girl.

"As Is" Finds

Finally, I finished the second curbside found chair...Yay!

I promised myself I wouldn't start on any other projects until this one was done, and now it's done! So....The following are some recent finds that require a little TLC that I just can't wait to get started on.

Found this cute little body form at a thrift store...Not happy with the fabric choices or stand but for only $5.00 I had to have it.

Not sure why it was marked "As Is." Well, other than fabric choices? Anyway, with a little TLC and a bit of creativity I know it will turn out beautifully...

Second find is this super cute and huge snowman picture in frame...I love, love, love snow people. It'll go perfect with all my other snow people that I put out at Christmas time. And it was only....Are you ready?

Yes, $1.50 and again marked "As Is." I think this was marked that way because it's missing the wire on the back to hang it. Easy fix! However, I am contemplating on painting the frame a different color, not sure yet. Hey, but for a buck fifty I think it was an awesome find...And now for my third and final find...

And for my favorite kind of price, FREE! This will require a little bit more TLC....A good cleaning and a brand new custom made (by me) slipcover and I think this little baby will shine... I can't wait to get started!

Oh, and although the sign didn't originally have it, I think they should have written "As Is" on it as well...Hee, hee, hee. By the way, it came with it's own little ottoman too. I think you can see it in the back...Sweet!

So off I go to get started...

Please come back and check out how these "As Is" finds turn out.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Have a wonderfully creative day!

Before and After: Cabinet Door

A couple of weeks ago my wonderful dad-in-law brought these two cabinet pieces home...Can you believe someone threw these out? By the way, if there is anyone else I know who loves junk as much as I do it would have to be my dad-in-law :-)

Cabinet door...still on the frame (above) and a cabinet panel (below)

When hubby saw them on his dad's porch he knew they were something I would love to have and create something out he asked. Being the sweet guy that my dad-in-law is of course he said yes...Yay! Thank you Dad!

So this is what I did with the first piece.

I just finished it today and couldn't wait to show you all...

Here's a closer look at the piece I decoupaged on.

Now to find a home for it...Oh and decide what I'm going to do with the other piece. Do you have any ideas of what I should do with the panel? Let me know what you think.

Thank you for stopping by today.

And don't be shy...leave me a comment so I know you were here.

Have a wonderfully creative new week.

A PetiteCottage

Have I ever told you the story of how I decided on my blog's name? Would you like to hear it? Well, if you do and you have a minute, won't you come in an sit a while? Sit right here, on my favorite comfy chair...

Would you like a cup of tea?

It's not a very long story...I promise :-)

It all began when I decided to start a blog. I knew my blog was going to be mainly about our home, my love for shabby, vintagey things and creativity, but what should I name it? I'm not sure if you know but, I'm huge on, love, love them....

...So I knew my blog's name should have hubby's and my initials, first and last name.

P=Pepe (my hubby's nickname) and

C=Our last name.

Then I decided to use our initials to create a title...Since my blog would be about our home the "C" was easy. I love cottages and always have considered our little home a cottage. After that "P" for petite made sense since our home is small...However "A" was a challenge. I thought another adjective would be a good idea...Believe it or not there aren't that many adjectives that begin with the letter "A" that would describe our home...The only other two titles I could think of were: Adorable Petite Cottage...hummm, too presumptuous and Ana's Petite Cottage...Well, no because it's not just my cottage...So after a lot of thought I decided to name it simply A Petite Cottage.

So there you have it. Not a very interesting story, but I thought I'd share it would you, especially today since I'm displaying a new blog header and look. Funny, but every time I create a new header I think, "Is my title too simple? Did I pick the right name?" And it makes me think back of why I named it what I did in the first place.

Thank you so much for stopping by for a visit today...

I do hope you come back real soon.

White Swan

Autumn has always been one of my favorite seasons, mostly because of its beautiful, rich colors...Reds, oranges, yellows...However, there is much to be said about the subtle beauty of white.

Today I'm sharing my attempt to create a white autumn vignette.

This beautiful swan flower pot was a gift from my hubby. He got him for me at an antique mall a few months ago and I've just now decided to display him.

Isn't he beautiful?

So what do you think?

Today I'm linking to Kathleen's White Wednesday.

Thank you so much for stopping by today...

Hope you come again real soon.

Chuy's Singer

This is Chuy...

My grandmother.

All her grandkids use to call her Chuy instead of Grandma...She use to say she liked it because it meant we were friends and friends called each other by their first names. I have so many wonderful memories of her. She was an extraordinary grandma to me and I feel very blessed to have had such a loving grandma whom I learned so very much from. Thanks to her I grew to love and appreciate the art of sewing...

This is her Singer sewing machine, which she left to me.

Until a few days ago it had been used as a computer table for an extra computer we had that we didn't even use. Hubby thought it was time to get rid of the computer... Now I have my sewing machine easily accessible again.... So what did I do?...

I sewed of course....

I had been using my daughter's basic portable sewing machine for my sewing needs, but nothing compares to The Singer...

It might be an older model...vintage, you might even say, but it still sews amazingly...I love it.

So what did I sew?....

Pretty, colorful throw pillows...

...For my other grandmother, Anita...Well, she's my hubby's grandmother but I guess I've always considered her mine too, especially recently since we've been able to spend a lot more time together and have become closer...La quiero mucho Anita.

Do you wanna know something sweet?....My grandma Chuy and grandma Anita were friends even before I met my hubby. How cool is that?

Hugs and Kisses,
